Are you a 5 o’clock scrambler that leaves the office without even shutting down your computer properly? Do you leave your mouldy mug on your desk or in the sink for someone else to wash? Or perhaps you’re an employer or office manager, tired of cleaning up after your staff. Don’t worry, you’re not alone! We’re here to help you keep your office kitchen clean and tidy in just 8 simple steps!

1. Microwaves

Everyone else has to use it so if you do have an exploding soup incident, clean it up! No one wants to heat up their lunch in a dirty microwave. All you need is a cloth or a sponge and some warm soapy water. The sooner you wipe away the food, the easier the cleaning process will be.

2. Dirty dishes

Don’t be lazy! If you use a plate or some kitchen utensils, be sure to wash them up, dry them and put them away after. There’s nothing more frustrating than going to make your lunch and there’s nothing to make it with!

3. Clean sink

The thought of touching congealed food that has gathered around the plug hole can be enough to make anyone cringe! By cleaning out the sink of your leftovers, you’re helping to make the kitchen a cleaner and more hygienic environment to prepare and eat food!

4. Dirty dishcloths and tea towels

Let’s be honest, nobody wants to use a cloth or a sponge if it’s clogged with tomato soup or breadcrumbs. By rinsing the dishcloths ready for the next person to use, not only are you saving them a job but you’re also helping to keep the kitchen clean.

5. Bin emptying duty

It doesn’t matter where in the office your rubbish bin is located, whether that be in the centre of the office or in the kitchen, an overflowing bin can start to smell! A couple of ways to prevent a smelly bin in the workplace are:

  • Scented bin bags are great for eliminating the smell of leftover, rotting food!
  • Organise an office bin emptying schedule, taking it in turns to carry out the office cleaning duties.
  • Hire a cleaner! And we know the perfect cleaners for the job… Us!

6. Replenish the refreshments

Okay, so this isn’t really a cleaning essential as such, but it’s a step to creating a happy working environment. I’m not sure about you, but the team in our offices are fuelled with tea, coffee and biscuits! If one of those three essentials run out, it’s like World War III. It’s important to ensure that the caffeine supply never runs out!!

7. The Fridge

From time to time we’re all guilty of leaving a half-empty tin of beans at the back of the fridge. This is kind of acceptable in the comfort of your own kitchen, granted a little bit disgusting – but it’s your house! However, in the workplace, leaving rotting food at the back of the fridge may repulse some of your colleagues, and even deter them from using the facility! By making sure your team either take home or bin their leftovers, your fridge will stay smelling and looking fresh!

8. The floors

Don’t have time to sweep and mop? Hiring a cleaner is one of the easiest ways to ensure that your office kitchen floors – and any other floors for that matter – are cleaned on a regular basis! So when the clock strikes five and everyone dashes to the door, you have peace of mind that your floors will be sparkling ready for the following day!
